Final 4 Run Comes To An End

Our Final 4 playoff run came to an end today when we came up against Delphic Newtown United FC, having lost our opening two matches to S.L. Horsford St. Pauls FC and Conaree FC the only thing left to play for was pride.

A change in our lineup saw a very youthful starting 11 which consisted of one senior player, the average age of the club on this day was 21 years of age. The performance by the team was a high spirited one with awe inspiring passing which pleased spectators of the spectators in Warner Park Stadium. The match ended in a 1-1 draw with young Carlos Bertie grabbing plenty of the headlines for his wonderful strike which left veteran goalkeeper Akil “Manaras” Byron standing there as the ball went into the net. The strike by young Bertie finished off what was a very impressive build up play which consisted of one touch passing and well timed movements off and on the ball.

Delphic Newtown United FC equalized in the 48th minute of the first half which infuriated the coaching staff of our club. The fourth official indicated that one minute of stoppage time is to be played but somewhat surprisingly three (3) minutes was played, Newtown United had a shot deflected out for a conner kick and El Cardo Jacobs headed home the equalizer from the resulting corner kick. Another Thrashing In The Final 4

Another night and another thrashing was compiled by Conaree FC tonight as we lost 3-0. A promising start to the match ended in humiliation, the first few minutes fell to Akeido Eddie but the striker failed to get a touch  on the ball to kick the ball into the open net. That chance came back to haunt Spurs in the

?th minute when a failed offside call allowed Andy Samuel to score the opening goal of the match.

Conaree FC was almost on the scoresheet moments when Choppy broke free and played in a low cross to Bug Man but the winger failed to get a touch on the ball, we were lucky on that occasion.

We were creating chances of our own and should have been on the scoresheet ourselves after the Conaree FC goalkeeper flapped at a cross but we failed to capitalize on loose ball and get it into the open net, that was the best chance to get a goal in the first forty five minutes.

Andy Samuel made it 2-0 in the ?th minute after a poor aerial pass by Ahmad Nicholls was cleared and a counter attack was on, Conaree FC played in a high cross which found the feet of Samuel who hit a low volley and put the ball into the net. Continue reading

Unwelcoming Final 4 Return For Spurs

After missing out on the Final 4 for the past few season a long awaited return had fans excited with the prospect of winning the league but that excitement throughout the entire day. This day turned out to be a day that everyone connected to the club will want to completely forget as we were beaten 4-0 on the night.

At halftime St. Pauls had a two goal lead after Josh Leader and George “Yellowman” Isaac scored the opening goals of the match. The first goal came after a free-kick was given up in the St. Pauls end of the field, the resulting kick found Josh leader wide open on the flank and the winger easily went by sweeper Shawn Williams out wide and Leader went in on goal but was chased down by Williams who got back enough to get his foot on Leader’s shot but unfortunately it was deflected off his foot and into the goal.

The resulting goal was very much unfortunate as goalkeeper Zeleon Morton came off his line and looked to be making a save before the ball was deflected and sent him going in the other direction. Continue reading

Regular Season Ends With A Win

The season ended with a win over Conaree, a team we have failed to be for some time. The team was winless against Conaree in the four matches both teams poled against each other. Today that winless streak was put to and end with a 2-0 victory over a Conaree which had a few players rested with the SKNFA Premier League Final 4 Playoffs to come the following weekend, our team was far from full strength swell as we had a few players out injured.

Excuses aside the match was a very entertaining one to watch as both team were out to end the season with a win, fortunately it as us to went into the Final 4 Playoffs with a much needed victory.

It took just two minutes for the scoring to be opened as a shot by Akeido Eddie was going wide but was turned in by T’koi Huggins who was in the right place at the right time. There were claims of offside by the Conaree players but the goal stood and Spurs had a 1-0 lead.

Now one goal ahead we were on our way to securing a second consecutive victory. 18 minutes later the scoreline was doubled when an attempted low cross by Shervin All was mishandled by the Conaree goalkeeper and the ball was bumbled over the goal line. It was a comedic goal to allow as it was expected to be a routine stop by the goalkeeper. Continue reading

Spurs Get Pass A Stubborn St. Peters

After an embarrassing loss to Cayon the team dusted itself off and set things right against St. Peters. Two first half goals from winger Shervin Allen and Tiran Hanley were enough for the club to gather all three points.

The opening goal came after some nice build up play and was finished off easily by Shervin who was wide open and in the perfect position to simply tap the ball into the net. Spurs had various chances to extend their lead but were unable to finish the chances off. The team was enjoying a high percentage of possession and St. Peters were barely holding us off. Not long after Shervin opened the scoring he was involved in our second goal of the match which came in the form of a penalty kick.

The midfielder broke wide and attempted a cross and the ball was handled in the penalty area by a St. Peters defender and a penalty was awarded, the spot kick was converted by Tiran Hanley to give the team a 2-0 half time lead.

The first half wasn’t all positive for the team as midfielder Javier got injured after challenging former teammate Shian Warrington for a loosely passed ball. The resulting collision left Gaiton with a damaged knee and he had to be replaced at halftime. Continue reading
